Birth of Radar (2003)

I’m interested in forgotten sites where significant events have taken place.

In 2000, a small memorial stone was erected next to a country road not far from my studio. The Stone marks the place where the first successful trial of radar took place in 1939. The site was the inspiration for a series of paintings called Birth Of Radar.

Site and paintings were filmed for Anglia Television News in September 2003. In 2008 I made a request for permission to put the short sequence on youtube.com but unfortunately Anglia Television refused.

Update: The Radar 'Daventry Experiment' was recreated by a team comprising radio amateurs from the Coventry and Northampton Amateur Radio clubs in its 75th Anniversary year on 26 February 2010 to commememorate the original experiment.

I took some video footage and will be using it to make a new video including the paintings, that I will post on this website and on youtube.com.
